In 2005, the work of the AEAAN culminated in the development and distribution of a community resource kit. The Kit, containing CD-ROM and VHS videos, includes:
two Power Point presentations with comprehensive speaking notes
an elder abuse training video
a listing of Alberta resources in support of the issue of Elder Abuse
several key online links
other national resources
The kit also includes a copy of “Community Awareness and Response: Abuse and Neglect of Older Adults” by Dianne Kinnon (permission granted) and examples of Community Response models from around Alberta.
All these resource materials developed by AEAAN have gained both national and international interest and recognition. Use agreements for the PSA have been completed with:
Adult Protection Services in Austin Texas
Elder Abuse Protection Committee in Sault Ste. Marie
Health and Social Services in the Yukon
Social Services and Seniors in Prince Edward Island
The community resource kit CD- Rom is being utilized as a resource for the library with the Seniors Secretariat in Nova Scotia and the general PPT presentation has been used at the Catholic Health Australia conference in 2006.
If you would be interested in receiving or reviewing a community kit, please provide us with a written request including your name, contact information, organization and your intentions for use. The Alberta Elder Abuse Network meets the first Monday of each month and reviews requests at that time. Due to limited resources, please expect it to take up to 2 weeks after the meeting to accommodate your request.
