FACE IT: Elder Abuse Happens Conference is an initiative of the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council (AEAAC) and Alberta Seniors and Housing to increase awareness about elder abuse.
The vision of the 2018 FACE IT: Elder Abuse Happens Conference is to create a ‘community of practice’ and to ‘take action’.
A truly effective community response involves many stakeholders working in collaboration.

Margaret works closely with organizations and community groups on projects of system and social change. After graduating from university in 2002, she entered the public service and held portfolios in victim and children’s issues in the Ontario Government. In 2009, she joined the Centre for Research and Education on Violence against Women and Children (CREVAWC) at the University of Western Ontario in London as a Research Associate. Her work at CREVAWC includes program design and development for provincial and national projects. Margaret is passionate in her belief that everyone has an important contribution to make in creating safe and healthy communities and that we need to engage all members of our communities in the building process. “It’s Not Right” Neighbours, Friends and Families for Older Adults provides public education and training using an innovative bystander approach to engage and support neighbours, friends and family members as potential first responders to situations of abuse of older adults. Margaret will speak about the three year New Horizons pan-Canadian project to develop a shared approach in teaching everyone to recognize warning signs of abusive behaviour and how to respond safely and supportively using practical everyday skills.
