Karen Whiteman: Karen currently serves as chair of the AEAAC board. Karen has a passion around Elder Abuse ignited by her work as Regional Director at Kerby Centre until 2024.Karen has been on many diverse boards at both a governance and operational level. She is committed to the work she does.
George Epp: George is a long-time member of Lethbridge and southern Alberta who brings his skills of organizational management, financial oversight, effective leadership, resolving difficult problems and advocating for vulnerable people to the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council.
After a 21-year successful career in banking and then 17 years in his own consulting business, he worked as Country Director of a large International NGO program in Bangladesh from 2017 to 2020. George is now semi-retired and involved in some community development projects.
Aurelia Uarsama: Aurelia is currently the Seniors Wellbeing and Engagement Program lead at the Africa Centre in Edmonton. She has been involved in the non-profit sector in Canada and abroad for over two decades. Her work focused on social justice and rights to education for women and young girls. She has been volunteering in Alberta as a board member in various organizations. She holds a graduate degree from the University of Alberta.
Mark Dixon: Mark is the Executive Director at Stop Abuse in Families (SAiF) Society based in St. Albert. He has extensive board experience including Rotary as president and as steering committee chair for the St. Albert Youth Mental Health Hub. As SAiF Elder Abuse programs benefit from the support of AEAAC, Mark would like to reciprocate by taking on a larger role in this important Provincial work. He is pleased to leverage his marketing degree and nearly 40 years of marketing, communications, and strategy experience in his role with AEAAC.
Angella Gauthier: Angella is currently the Director of Executive Coordination at Alberta Municipalities with more than 20 years of experience in the Alberta Public Service. Previously, as Director of Seniors Strategy and Program Support with the Government of Alberta, she partnered with the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council (AEAAC) to advance Alberta’s Elder Abuse Prevention Strategy (2022–2027) and the Safe Spaces program, work she considers a career highlight.
Angella is passionate about advancing collaborative approaches that connect policy, community partnerships, and meaningful action. Her experience includes strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and leading complex policy initiatives.
She holds a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Human Services from Athabasca University, a Social Work Diploma from Medicine Hat College, and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from the University of Alberta.
Jessica Fielding As a seasoned marketing professional with over two decades of experience, Jessica is committed to leveraging strategic communication to raise awareness about elder abuse prevention. Currently serving as Marketing Manager at Eagle Engineering and Consulting, she brings a wealth of expertise in brand storytelling, digital engagement, and community outreach. Her strategic approach to marketing, extensive campaign launch experience, and deep understanding of communication channels will enhance AEAAC’s efforts to raise awareness and educate the public.
