About the AEACC
The AEAAC Stands With You
The Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council is dedicated to increasing awareness of, and supporting effective community response to, the indignities and horrors of elder abuse and neglect.
With the nation’s fastest growing population now over the age of 65, an alarming number of Canadians are rapidly becoming vulnerable to various forms of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial abuse that can strip them of their human rights and well-being.
In response to this threat, the AEAAC was formed in 2002 as the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Network (AEAAN) — a province-wide network of professionals representing multiple communities across Alberta to develop the resources needed to address elder abuse and safeguard the health and happiness of older adults.
Since that time, we have rebranded and restructured as a non-profit society organized as a council of Albertans, developed and shared individual and community resources and supports, and hosted several learning and training events with a mission dedicated to increasing awareness and supporting community responses to elder abuse.
Our belief is that no one organization has a broad enough scope to address the complex issue of elder abuse in its entirety. A truly effective community response involves many stakeholders working in collaboration in order to fulfill our vision of Alberta’s older adults seen as valued and living free from abuse.
Our Story- 20 years in 2022
The AEAAC was first formed in 2002, since that time we have undergone a name change, developed a new logo, developed resources, hosted several learning events, and became a non-profit society. What has never changed in that time is our dedication to raising awareness and addressing elder abuse.
Our Vision: Alberta’s older adults are valued and live free from abuse.
Our Mission: We are a council of Albertans dedicated to increasing awareness and supporting community responses to elder abuse.
